After serving the Northshore of Greater New Orleans for nearly 40 years, Grace Disciples of Christ Church, formerly First Christian Church of Mandeville, sold their property and made a commitment to continue to make a difference on the Northshore with the love of God that Jesus embodied and taught. Grace Disciples of Christ formed a partnership with the Great River Region of the Christian Church, and New Church Ministry of the Christian Church, and called Rev. Dr. Jarrett Banks to help plant a new expression of church on the Northshore.

After serving with established churches for over thirty years, Jarrett moved to Mandeville in January, 2020 and immediately began working with people who believe that selfless love has the power to change the world. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, they joined Pamala McKay of God’s Unchanging Hands Feeding Ministry, a local non-profit, and began serving hot meals to food-insecure households in Abita Springs, Covington, Mandeville and Slidell. Some residents who receive the meals are homeowners living in homes that are in great need of repairs.

The group is currently involved in disaster relief following Hurricane Laura. They are purchasing and delivering supplies to some of the most vulnerable evacuees who are being housed in hotels in New Orleans and they are planning trips to southwest and central Louisiana to do what they can to help their neighbors clean up or repair storm damage.

On Christmas Day, 2020, a Christmas Dinner Party will be served in the backyard of a home that we will adopt as one of our service projects. The neighbors of this homeowner and all who wish to volunteer will be invited to the dinner party. There will be live Christmas music, fried turkey, Christmas goodies, and an opportunity to sign up for various service projects. The goal is to recreate these dinner parties the last Friday night of each month in different locations on the Northshore. We will gather on the other Fridays of the month to plan the dinner parties and discuss ways we can love our neighbors.
