The Good Samaritan Initiative
In partnership with Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Rayne United Methodist Church, Munholland United Methodist Church, and St. Andrews Episcopal Church, we are caring for and working with folks in the Central City area who are experiencing housing, food, and clothing insecurity. Every Tuesday at 2pm, we offer a healthy meal, gently used clothing, a voucher for housing at the Salvation Army, and plenty of love, support, and community.
Just Love - Greater New Orleans will be providing the meal every 5th Tuesday, with our next meal on April 29th! If you want to help with food, clothing, housing vouchers, or your loving and caring presence, email us to join the team!
Details: 5th Tuesday of the month, 2-3:30pm at Mount Zion UMC (2700 Louisiana Ave.)

Fostering the Families
On the first Thursday on the Westbank, foster families gather for an evening of warmth, connection, and care. These nights are called "Fostering the Families," they exist for one simple but powerful reason: the people who open their homes to foster children deserve spaces where they are cared for, too.
Fostering children is a beautiful and life-changing act of love—but it's also incredibly hard. That's why "Fostering the Families" was created. A space where those who care for foster children can be cared for themselves. Here, foster parents can share struggles, swap stories, and find strength in community. Because the best way to nurture children is to make sure the adults who love them are supported, too.
You can be part of this effort by investing financially, joining the food prep team, or becoming part of the hospitality crew that shows up each month to serve, smile, and make it all feel like home. We've all heard the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child", and "Fostering the Families" is how we can turn words into action and show these families that they're not alone, are seen, appreciated, and loved.
Details: every 1st Thursday of the month, 6-7:30pm at the White House (209 Lafayette St. Gretna)

Free Little Library Build
We've got exciting news, friends—our first Free Little Library is ready for the spotlight, and we need you to help bring it to life! Join us in Central City for a special Work Day, where we'll build, assemble, and paint this small but mighty community gift. Tools? Provided. Food and drinks? You bet. Fun and good vibes? Absolutely. All you need to bring is yourself (and maybe wear something you don't mind getting a little paint on).
As a reminder, these aren't just book boxes. They're colorful little hubs of hope. Little Free Libraries: "A small, colorful box filled with books, free for anyone to take or leave." These libraries are more than just shelves—they're solving real issues tied to mental health and literacy in New Orleans. And we've done our homework, identifying book deserts in our neighborhoods so we can help fill them with stories, resources, and opportunities.
Details: 11am on Saturday, April 26 at 2028 Third St.

The Curious Krewe
At a Curious Krewe gathering, we’re all about building real friendships and diving into life’s big (and small) questions with people who see the world differently. At the heart of every Curious Krewe, we’re doing two things—being great friends and chasing curiosity together.
What does that look like?
We’re glad you asked!
Friendship is First: Two folks (who are friends) kick things off by sharing their thoughts on the topic we all voted on last time. They will both be “keeping things real, while also fully respecting each other.
Chasing Curious Together: Just hanging out with people who think differently is great, but there’s so much more to friendships. True friends help each other explore, learn, and figure out what’s real. Crazy idea, we know—but we believe you can do that even if you don’t see eye to eye on everything.
The Curiousity Krewe doesn’t have “rules”, but it does have a “code”. We call ours the “The Fun-but-Fair Code”
Respect beats being right—always.
Listen up (no interruptions, please).
Keep an open mind—it’s how we grow!
Differences are good—let’s understand them.
Make this a safe space for everyone, every time.
If all this piques your CURIOSITY, then you belong in The Curious Krewe!
Location: Urban South (1645 Tchoupitoulas St.)
Time: We plan to meet the fourth Thursday of every month from 6-7:30pm unless otherwise noted.

Our hope is that you will come away with more than a full belly, but a full soul.

Together New Orleans
Together New Orleans is a broad-based coalition of congregations and community-based organizations in the greater New Orleans area, with the capacity to address community problems large and small. The coalition is deliberate about crossing the lines of race, religion, neighborhood, and political affiliation. We work on issues affecting families and communities, and we are a strictly non-partisan organization.
We have three basic goals:
to build relationships across our community based on trust and a willingness to listen to each other,
to equip our members and leadership with skills and practices to get results, and
to achieve change on concrete issues, as part of our common call to justice.

The Curious Krewe
Doubter’s Club is now called the Curious Krewe!
OUR MISSION
At The Curious Krewe, we’re all about building real friendships and diving into life’s big (and small) questions with people who see the world differently. Here’s the deal: it’s not a Curious Collective unless we’re doing two things—being great friends and chasing curiosity together.
Friendship first: Two folks kick things off by sharing their thoughts on the topic we all voted on last time. It’s about keeping things real and showing what respect looks like in action.
Chasing curiosity together: Let’s be honest—just hanging out with people who think differently is cool, but it’s not enough. True friends help each other explore, learn, and figure out what’s real. Crazy idea, we know—but we believe you can do that even if you don’t see eye to eye on everything.
OUR RULES (a.k.a. The Fun-but-Fair Code)
1. Respect beats being right—always.
2. Listen up (no interruptions, please).
3. Keep an open mind—it’s how we grow!
4. Differences are cool—let’s understand them.
5. Make this a safe space for everyone, every time.

International Human Rights Day
The St. Charles Center for Faith + Action is hosting an interfaith gathering to mark Human Rights Day and bless the newly-installed Solitary Garden at 7100 St. Charles Avenue (our office and the location of the St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church) on Tuesday December 10, 2024 at 6 pm. This gathering is in partnership with the Louisiana Stop Solitary Confinement Coalition (LSSC) and Impacted Solitary Survivors Council.
Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10 to commemorate the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. We will use this opportunity to build our connections as a community and amplify the call for an end to solitary confinement, a practice and policy of institutionalized dehumanization. We will lift up themes of dignity, justice, freedom, the capacity for love and the image of God in each human.
This fall, numerous volunteers and impacted community members came together to build the Solitary Garden at St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church. Solitary Gardens is a social practice project rooted in abolition, which transforms solitary confinement cells into garden beds. The contents (plants, flowers, and herbs) of the prison-cell-turned-garden-bed are designed by currently incarcerated people serving their sentences in isolation and are tended by community members on the outside. As prisons are the descendants of slavery, the garden beds are constructed from the ancestral byproducts of sugarcane, cotton, and tobacco, exposing the illusion that slavery was abolished in the U.S. The Solitary Gardens both directly and metaphorically ask us to imagine a landscape without prisons. This event will serve to bless the Solitary Garden and call for freedom and justice for all.

The Doubter's Club
We all want friends, but do we want friends who think differently? We do, and we think you do too. That's why we're starting "The Doubter's Club”. The mission of The Doubters' Club is to model friendship and pursue truth together with people who think differently than one another. Although admirable, having a group of friends who think differently is not enough. Real friendships help one another discover what is true and pursue that truth together. Call us crazy, but we think we can do that even if we think differently than one another. The Doubters Club will be facilitated by two co-moderators who 1) think differently than the other and 2) are friends. The rules are simple, 1. We value respect above being right. 2. We listen without interrupting. 3. We listen with an open mind. 4. We understand and accept differences of opinion. 5. We are a safe place. More details to come, but we are excited to make new and different friends and pursue truth together!
